Sunday Religious Education Program

‘‘Let the little children come to me...”  Matthew 19:14

Join us!

OUR MISSION:   Holy Spirit’s Sunday Religious Education program aims to build a vibrant faith-sharing community among the young members of our church family and to support parents in their roles as primary teachers of faith to their children. In our weekly classes, we seek to share the love of God with our students and explore the treasures of our Faith. Special sacramental preparation is provided for Reconciliation and Communion. Our students also participate in various Works of Mercy projects to help care for our brothers and sisters in need. To enroll or volunteer, please contact Jeanne Doyle.

What we do:  Holy Spirit’s Sunday Religious Education Program (also known as CCD classes, P.S.R., Sunday School, Faith Formation, etc.) provides catechism classes for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. Students learn about the Catholic faith and form a community with other students from the Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas. Groups of grade-level peers meet to study, talk, sing, pray, serve, craft, act, and celebrate all that is great about being Catholic kids.

Who we are:  All children in grades kindergarten through eighth who want to learn more about Catholicism and grow in their relationship with Christ are invited to join us.  Our students come from over 20 different city, county, private, and homeschools in the area.  All of our volunteer catechists are certified with Youth Protection Training through the Birmingham Diocese.

When do we meet:  Classes meet during the school year from fall until spring.  Classes meet on Sundays between the morning Masses.  For holiday schedule, please contact Jeanne Doyle.

How to enroll:  Registration for new and returning students is held in August after Mass (watch bulletin for dates). Returning students may also re-register online. Fees are $30.00 per student to cover books and all supplies. Payment plans and help are available if needed.  (If you transfer to Holy Spirit parish during the school year, please contact the coordinator, Jeanne Doyle to register.)

Why we do this: We love our Faith! We want to spread the treasures of our Catholic Faith, build a Catholic community of students from many different schools, and grow closer to Christ as Catholic Christians. Our classes are meant to support home instruction in prayer, Scripture, the saints, Catholic doctrine and practices, Church history, the liturgical calendar, the sacraments, and living the faith through action and service.
